I’ll be ignoring Xmas this year. Too much unblended families and departed parents and a sibling that I really just can’t get into the spirit of it. Maybe next year, in some sort of different way, not trying to recreate something, because that’s not possible. Thanks for this, I really enjoyed reading it. Quite inspiring.

Great to hear from you Lee. Yes sometimes, it's good to be able to ignore Xmas!! Some members of Advantages of Age have created their own little Xmas tradition alone and are fine about it in a good and peaceful way. I hope you find your own way.

So happy to hear about Joy-Z! I’m over 60 and when I do poetry slams here in Austria, I am the grandmother! I was shy until I was 30 or so and started to wake up and speak up. Regarding Christmas: when we moved abroad in 2000, we realised being far from the commercialism of the USA and cities and our relatives was a gift. We could light candles, cook and sing. The race to buy was gone. We could celebrate and observe.

I didn't know you did poetry slams there. I hope you write about the experience at some point for us... Oh and yes to the marking of Solstice as opposed to the commercialism.

Me and husband will be on our own, getting up late, sitting around, watching carefully curated telly, a short zoom call with family members during the morning. We may or may not have a 'Christmas' dinner, but we will eat what we want, when we want. We may go a walk, we may stay in all day. We will definitely please ourselves!
