Dear All
I am happily married man in my early 60s (61). I have recently been made redundant and whilst I have been working in the high-tech domain (AI and Cyber Security). I am finding it very hard to pick up another role – either contract or permanent. I would like a change of gear and focus more on project management (I am professionally qualified in that area). I used to be an MD in a large blue-chip technology business and have floated my own cyber security business on AIM. However, I strongly feel that I am a victim of age discrimination. Either recruiters or employers worry that I will want to move up the career pole and won’t commit long-term to roles they feel are beneath me. Or they feel that someone with my experience will be difficult to manage. Whereas in reality, I want to have a job in which I can give my employer the benefit of my experience and focus on doing a good job, rather than have to manage the politics of an organisation as I had to as a senior business leader. I was wondering whether any of you in the community had any tips on how I can deal with such discrimination and whether you had tips on how I can find work fulfillment by taking a more lateral course of action?
